Preparation

The old saying goes “fail to prepare…prepare to fail!” I learned this when I was a practicing litigator. (Yes, I am an attorney, but I got it right, so I don’t have to practice anymore 😜.) I have incorporated this practice into Howard Elliott since inception.

So much goes into preparation! It is market time, and we all know that there is a long list to account for to bring a showroom to life. The merchandising layout, the product, the pricing, the collateral materials, the marketing and of course all the finishing touches to entice buyers to visit us during the shows. This practice requires a proper mix of creative and analytical thinking. It takes a village to recreate a showroom look each market season. Months of planning, preparation and execution are required to achieve 5-6 days of optimal selling. 

We are constantly challenging ourselves as to how to best portray the vision of Howard Elliott Collection.

We account for all the senses of a buyer when preparing for each show.

Sight: providing trendy new product displays to entice a buyer to visit! Sound: just the right playlists for the music complementing the showroom at various times during the day (mellow in the morning, upbeat in the afternoon, and little dip into the 70’s late in the day!

Smell: planning the right menu for snacks that create an inviting aroma. Touch: providing the right textures and tones for customers to feel and touch as well as the giveaways that they can take with them. Most importantly a warm sincere smile.

This can be the most important and easily forgotten attribute. This is the first impression that a customer has when entering your showroom. 

It is easy to provide that warm smile to our friends and new customers as we love what we do!

You can spend months preparing and executing the plan for a show season, but you must be positive and inviting during the show. Be open early and stay late! We are there to make our customers’ lives easier. Stay open to accommodate their schedules! 

When I practiced law, we spent months preparing for a trial! The preparation was grueling and exhausting! However, when it was game time and the jury was set and opening statements began, the adrenaline kicked in and my belief in my case and excitement was apparent. 

The show must go on,

but it is always interesting to reflect on what goes on behind the scenes!
